Arthur J. Kelley Jr. of Harwinton, died September 15th, in Southbury, CT at the age of 96.
As a teacher, writer, artist and voracious reader, he inspired and guided his students and friends, but most particularly influenced his three nieces Penelope Kirchofer, Betsey Koehler, Kelley Carter, and nephew, Howard Fenn, Jr. Arthur was a veteran of WWII, serving as navigator on a B24 in the Army Air Corp., and remained close, lifelong friends with his crew.
A graduate of Middlebury College and Yale University, Arthur taught for many years at Wilbraham Academy in Wilbraham, MA. He then pursued his interests in painting and writing, and worked with the Kelley Transit Co. as a tour coordinator.
In addition to his nieces and nephews, and their spouses, he will also be missed by 6 great-nephews and 3 great-grand nephews.
Interment will be private, but a celebration of his life will follow in October.
In honor of his memory, donations may be made to the ASPCA or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.

Mr.Kelley was one of my favorite teachers at Wilbraham
I'll never forget him directing me in a play
where my alligator costume was practically bigger
than the stage.

The class of 1960 was the first class to reside in the Senior dorm away from Rich Hall. Mr. Kelley was one of the faculty members who lived in that Senior Dorm. He was our favorite faculty member, not just form our dorm, but from the entire school. He had such a great sense of humor, and you couldn't not smile when he briskly walked into the commons room pretending not to see us, but then quickly stopping to make a humorous, if not derogatory comment to us, while we all cryed out "Kelleybo." He was exactly the type of intelligent, caring, sophisticated educator 17 & 18 year old boys needed. Craig Wilson Wilbraham Class of 1960

We all loved Mr Kelley. Our favorite. Even though I couldn't act, he always put me in his plays. A great roll model for all of us. Wilbraham '60

Mr. Kelley taught me to read and write at Wilbraham in 1962. I did originals, rewrites, and rewrites of the rewrites. He never gave up on me.
